Within the last 10 years, toxic algae outbreaks that make people and animals sick have occurred in every state. Scientists say the trend is likely to continue as global temperatures warm. “It’s a big, pervasive threat that we as a society are not doing nearly enough to solve,” said Don Scavia, a University of Michigan scientist.
