Climate change-induced algae growth is making the Greenland ice sheet melt faster, accounting for 5 to 10 percent of total ice sheet melt each summer, a new study says. Algae makes the ice sheet less reflective, causing it to absorb more of the sun’s heat and melt more rapidly.
