The COP23 logo unveiled today sends a strong clear message of climate change to the international community says Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.
The logo features a partly submerged island with a huge wave bearing down on it. The wave is in the form of a cyclone with an eye in the middle.
Bainimarama says design depicts exactly how helpless small island developing states are.
“Especially in light of our experience with TC Winston last year that caused heartbreak, this is a very stark and effective message to take to the world.”
The visiting German State Secretary for Environment Jochen Flasbarth says the logo speaks for itself.
“It reflects exactly what it is all about, that the most vulnerable countries of the world, the small island developing are affected by climate change.”
The logo was designed by Ronna Sekiguchi as part of a competition put out by the Fijian government.”_
She told FBC News, the concept for the logo design was inspired by TC Winston which hit Fiji in February last year.
