An alarming heat wave in the sunless winter Arctic has daily temperatures in the region this year up to 20 degrees Celsius higher than average. “This is an anomaly among anomalies. It is far enough outside the historical range that it is worrying,” said Michael Mann, director of the Earth System Science Center at Pennsylvania State University.
