To Meet Climate Goals, California Should Cut Oil Production, Report Says

California may be a leader in cutting greenhouse gas emissions, but it’s also the third-largest oil producer among the states. If it were to eliminate half of that production, it could cut global carbon dioxide emissions by 8 million to 24 million tons per year—equivalent to as much as 5 percent of its overall emissions, according to a new report.
