The federal spending bill passed by Congress doubled the budget of the federal Denali Commission, which funds infrastructure in rural Alaska. The $15 million increase was aimed at addressing “erosion, flooding and permafrost degradation,” and will be used to move the community of Newtok, which is quickly losing its land to coastal erosion.
