California’s largest utility, PG&E, filed for bankruptcy in a defensive maneuver that sets the stage for a major restructuring. While the company was cleared of fault for a devastating 2017 fire in California’s wine country, investigators have tied its equipment to other fires. Wildfires have in the past have saddled utilities with millions of dollars in damages.
