Blackhawk Mining, a coal company which employs 2,800 people in Kentucky and West Virginia, plans to file for bankruptcy later this week. The company’s announcement is the latest in a string of coal company bankruptcies in Eastern Kentucky, a sign of coal’s decreasing profitability.
