At least $67 billion of the damage caused by Hurricane Harvey in 2017 can be attributed directly to the impacts of climate change, according to a new study that calculated how likely severe hurricanes would form under different levels of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere. Harvey caused at least $90 billion in damage, but past economic estimates only attributed about $20 billion of that to global warming.
