At least seven people were killed and two others were missing in North Carolina on Thursday as flash floodwaters swept away roads and bridges, the New York Times reports. The state bore a heavy brunt from the same weather system as Tropical Storm Eta, with some areas receiving about 10 inches of rain. Research shows climate change is supercharging storms like Eta as warmer air holds more water.
