Biggest Ice Sheet on Earth More Vulnerable to Melting Than Thought

The East Antarctic ice sheet, which holds 80 percent of the world’s ice, may be even more vulnerable to warming than once believed, according to a new study. A large part of the sheet collapsed during a warm spell 400,000 years ago, when carbon dioxide levels sat around 300 parts per million. Researchers worry that could happen again today, contributing significantly to sea level rise.
