Some Democratic presidential candidates who vowed not to accept money from the fossil fuel industry — a major contributor to climate change — did so anyway. Caveats in rules like the No Fossil Fuel Money Pledge allowed candidates to accept donations in smaller amounts and from high-level officials outside of the pledge parameters.
