Along with other oil companies, ExxonMobil is expected to publicly back a Republican plan for a tax of $40 per ton of carbon dioxide produced, and return the money saved to taxpayers as a “climate dividend.” The plan also calls for companies to be protected from lawsuits over their contribution to climate change.
