Fires Rise in Arctic as ‘Lightning Follows the Warming’

Forest fires caused by lightning strikes are increasing with climate change, rising 2 to 5 percent each year for the past four decades. A new Nature Climate Change paper reveals that warmer temperatures are pushing the storms and wildfires farther north, to the permafrost tundra.
