Today the Green Party welcomed news that St. Brigid’s National School in Wicklow has introduced a gender-neutral uniform policy.
Speaking on the news, Green Party Equality Spokesperson Cllr Una Power said, “This is a fantastic move by St Brigid’s National School. Giving children an opportunity to wear clothes that feel comfortable for their identity or body is very much to be welcomed. School should be a happy accepting environment, and this should help students to have a positive learning experience.
“When I was in my all girl’s secondary school we had an option of trousers or a skirt, and it made a huge difference for many students from a body confidence perspective too.
“A huge well done to the student council pushing for this measure and building an inclusive environment for all students. Once again school students are leading the charge in creating a better world. Hopefully other schools will follow suit.”
