Algal blooms along the Gulf Coast aren’t normally as bad as what Florida is now experiencing. The main culprit is nitrogen fertilizers used in agriculture, which is washed into water sources. But climate change also plays a role, with scientists saying warming will make it more difficult to control the blooms.
