Heavy vehicles involved with seismic testing for the oil and gas industry have left a huge grid of tire tracks across parts of Alaska’s wilderness, leaving a mark that likely will last for years. A similar grid may soon extend into the state’s Arctic National Wildlife Refuge if seismic testing begins under a plan to sell oil and gas leases in the area, a plan strongly opposed by environmentalists.
