In 20 Years, Annual Wildfire Burn Area Will Be Six Times Larger, Study Says

Over the next 20 years, up to 11 states are predicted to see the average annual area burned increase by 500 percent, a recent study suggests. In the Western U.S., researchers estimate there will be 50 fewer days of snowpack and a 4-degree-Fahrenheit increase in average temperature, which will create longer fire seasons that burn more land.
