A Switzerland-based insurance company that does most of its business in the U.S. became the first of the big U.S. insurers to announce a ban on coverage for coal companies. Facing mounting pressure from environmental activists, Chubb said it wouldn’t write new policies for coal-fired plants or companies that derive more than 30 percent of their revenues from thermal coal mining.
