Even if human-caused greenhouse gas emissions could be immediately reduced to zero, global temperatures may continue to rise for centuries afterward because of climate feedback loops such as melting permafrost releasing once-frozen planet-warming gases, a new study says. That means carbon capture is needed, its authors say, but some experts are skeptical of the study’s model.
