Electricity generated by renewable sources like solar, wind and hydro has exceeded coal-fired power in the U.S. for a record 40 straight days, according to a new report based on government data. During decreased energy demand, subsidized renewable energy tends to be cheaper for utilities to operate than coal, the report says.
