Rep. Haaland Has Competition to Be First Native American to Lead Interior

New Mexico Rep. Deb Haaland, a Democrat, has emerged as a leading contender to become President-elect Joe Biden’s Interior secretary and become the first Native American to hold the position. But Haaland now has competition, The Hill reports. Michael Connor, a former Interior deputy secretary and a descendant of the Taos Pueblo tribe, is also being seriously considered for the job.
