Republican Jim Wright was elected as one of three powerful commissioners of Texas’s oil and gas regulator, ending a high-profile battle that had been called “the most important environmental race in the country,” by environmental groups and his Democratic opponent, Chrysta Castañeda. If elected, Castañeda would have been the first Democrat to sit on the board in 26 years.
