Ryan congratulates German Greens on election success

Green Party/Comhanotas Glas Leader Eamon Ryan TD today expressed his congratulations to the German Green Party following their success in the German elections.

The German Greens performed better than recent polls projected, increasing their vote share to 9% and now face into negotiations with the CDU and Liberal Party on the prospect of setting up a multi-party coalition Government.

Speaking today, Green Party Leader Eamon Ryan TD said: “We send our warm congratulations to our German colleagues on their strong performance in the elections yesterday. They are now in a very interesting position, facing the dilemma of whether to enter coalition Government or not. There will be tough negotiations ahead, and we wish them well in those.

“They ran a positive campaign, with clear positions on big environmental, climate change and European issues. It will be up to the party members to decide whether they can deliver in Government on their pre-election promises. What will surely be on their minds is that this is a revolutionary change that we cannot wait to see take place.”
