Cap Global Carbon: a just and fair Carbon Pricing Mechanism

Cap Global Carbon, a project of Feasta’s climate group, proposes establishing an independent Global Climate Trust representing all of humanity to set an upstream global carbon cap, auction permits, and return funds to people.

A Global Climate Commons Trust is needed to develop rules and administer the distribution of emissions rights and/or the funds raised through the selling of permits under a global cap. It would act as an institutional vehicle to gather support and momentum within or alongside the U.N. system. The Trust would codify the concept of “one person, one share” (of the global greenhouse gas emissions budget) meaning that two of the major problems of our time – adequate climate action, and growing inequality – are being dealt with in the same program.

More information on CapGlobalCarbon can be found at capglobalcarbon.org, and on Energies 2050 at http://energies2050.org/?lang=en.

This official side-event will feature an in-depth analysis and explanation followed by a Q&A and discussion.
