Dry conditions accelerated by climate change are pushing the American West toward one of the worst megadroughts on record, a new study warns. Megadroughts are generally defined as dry periods that last 20 years or more, and the one in the West could last for centuries, the study says, spreading from Oregon and Montana to West Texas and northern Mexico.
