The American oil industry has fallen behind its European counterpart when it comes to pledging to cut greenhouse gas emissions. But two recent announcements may be a sign of change. Occidental Petroleum announced on Tuesday that it will reach net-zero emissions for all the oil and gas it produces by mid-century, just weeks after ConocoPhillips said it would zero out its direct emissions.
