After years of decline, air pollution in the U.S. has spiked and may have taken the lives of almost 10,000 additional Americans over a two-year period, according to a new analysis of EPA data. Particulate matter in the U.S. dropped 24 percent between 2009 and 2016, but increased 5.5 percent in 2017 and 2018.
