Virtual models provide real knowledge in the grass family

The complex flowers of the grass family have enormous economic importance, as their pollination leads to the production of grains such as rice, wheat, and corn. Grass species are notoriously difficult to study, however. Researchers present a cost-effective method using computer-assisted design (CAD) software to create high-quality, 3D digital representations of intricate plant structures that can advance understanding of pollination, with implications for both agriculture and weed control.
