San Francisco Becomes the Latest City to Ban Natural Gas in New Buildings, Citing Climate Effects

San Francisco has banned natural gas in new homes, offices and restaurants, joining a growing list of municipalities—most of them in California—that are attempting to tackle the climate crisis by shrinking the massive climate footprint of their buildings. But with 12 percent of the nation’s total emissions coming from buildings, efforts to fully electrify them must go faster, climate advocates say.
