NOAA’s second Geostationary Operational Environmental Satellite, or GOES-S, is slated to launch Thursday. If all goes well, it will help its sister satellite monitor the U.S. and oceans to provide researchers with data on extreme weather, wildfires, lightning and fog, in close to real time, and help build more robust climate models.
