Surrounded by Oil Fields, an Alaska Village Fears for Its Health

The small Alaska village of Nuiqsut is surrounded by oil fields and residents fear a link between the drilling boom and respiratory illness. It is the only town in the midst of Alaska’s most prolific oil region on the state’s North Slope, an area poised for another drilling boom as the Trump administration clears the way for even more Arctic drilling and major companies have made more discoveries.
