We really need your help in this final push to influence TDs in their vote on the Heritage Bill. We understand that the bill is coming back into the Dáil next week, June 19th – no time to spare on this one.
We are asking you to write to your TDs to ask them to remove Sections 7 and 8 of the Heritage Bill.
We attach some key points below (Heritage Bill Key Points.pdf) but we implore you to please tailor your own letter to your TDs. When the Bill was in the Seanad, the Senators applauded the quality of the tailor-made letters.
Dear Member,
Make a note of the date 8th September for this year’s AGM with discussions on organisational matters of importance AND an afternoon session on Sustainable Development Goals as they impact on Ireland’s heritage.
Phil Kearney of An Taisce Climate Change Committee attended the CAN Europe General Assembly –
Please find below a brief account of the CAN Europe General Assembly (GA) and workshop on National Energy and Climate Plans (NECP) which was held in Brussels on April 17th – 19th.
Jenny (Christian Aid) and Jerry (SCC) also attended. Thanks are due to Jenny for promoting the idea of attending the GA.
As other EU countries propose increased restrictions on toxic polluting diesel cars, Ireland is now a dumping ground for imports from the UK.
Other countries either have or intend to introduce restrictions on dirty diesels within their cities and urban centres as the Nitrous Oxides they emit are dangerously compromising air quality.
An Taisce have today a submitted a legal complaint to Sligo County Council regarding the recent advertisement on Ben Bulben. [1]
As the mountain is part of a sensitive rural landscape in a visually vulnerable and surrounded by scenic routes, all designated under the Sligo County Development Plan 2017-2023, there is a requirement to obtain planning permission and no exemptions apply.
The EPA’s projections, published today[1], reveal the colossal scale of Ireland’s collective political failure to rein in greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions in line with our legally binding EU and global commitments.
It is quite staggering to consider that instead of achieving the modest initial target of reducing our national GHG emissions by 20% versus 2005 levels, the EPA today confirms that “at best”, we will have only managed a negligible 1% emissions cut by 2020.
Consultation on the Review of Trawling Activity Inside the Six Nautical Mile Zone
An Taisce has called for Ireland to take leadership on fish population conservation as provided in Sustainable Development Goal 14, Life Under Water: Conserve and sustainably use the oceans, seas and marine resources, in a Department of Agriculture, Food and the Marine consultation on trawling with in the six nautical mile exclusive national fishing zone. An Taisce has highlighted the need to place marine life protection above vested interests.
