Mott Haven in the South Bronx is nicknamed “Asthma Alley” because it has some of the worst air pollution in the country. Residents are physically closer to sources of air pollution than most New Yorkers, but they generate just a fraction of it. A new study describes this kind of excessive burden on the health of a population by air pollution largely generated by others.
