In addition to the deadly flames and increasingly hazardous air quality, wildfires in the West are also posing a threat to community drinking water as toxins leach into plumbing systems, health experts are warning. A new study shows that the amount of benzene in drinking water spiked far above levels that are considered safe after the Paradise Fire in 2018 and the Tubbs Fire in 2017.
