Bridgefoot Street Community Garden Compost Workshop and Open Day Harvest.

**What: **Stop Food Waste Compost Workshop (10 am) followed by a Garden Open Day and Potato Harvest (12 pm)

When: Saturday 16th of September 2017, 10 am – 4 pm.

**Where: ** Bridgefoot Street Community Garden, Liberties, Dublin 8.

Overview: Bridgefoot Street Community Garden Compost Workshop and Open Day Harvest.

From 10 am Craig Benton – expert composter from Stop Food Waste, will be on hand to demonstrate how to compost effectively, how to make a composting site, how to set up a wormery and how to set this up within your own home and community.

This will be followed from 12 pm by an open day where we dig the last of the potatoes and cook them. Tea and coffee will be provided … and potatoes!

Please bring your own cup and plate as this is a zero waste event!

Can participants bring old newspapers, and any bags of garden green waste (especially leaf mulch) that they can conveniently bring along with them.

Gloves and tools will be provided.

The weather forecast is OK for Saturday.

Schedule of Activity:

· 10 am – 12 pm: Composting talk and construction of pallet composter with Craig Benton

Weeding and garden tidy up for composting materials

· 12pm – 1 pm: Potato Harvest

· 1pm – 2 pm: Lunch (Buttered Potatoes served with Smoked Salmon and Chives?)

· 2pm – 4pm: Building a Wormery to make use of food scraps.

Bridgefoot Street Community Garden and Allotments is an important Green Space located within the Liberties, Dublin 8.

The community garden is also surrounded by a number of urban bee hives, and is an important feeding site for the local Honey Bees, and other insect pollinators.
