Coal ash selenium found in fish in North Carolina lakes

Source: ScienceDaily

High levels of selenium have been found in the tissues of fish in North Carolina lakes that receive coal ash effluents from power plants. Concentrations of selenium exceeding EPA-recommended thresholds for aquatic health were found in the liver, muscle, ovary and testes tissues of the fish, as well as in bottom waters at two of the lakes, despite the fact that selenium inputs have decreased or stopped in recent years.
