Fossil Fuel Consumption by Electric Power Sector Hits Lowest Level Since 1994

Fossil fuel consumption by electric power generators has hit its lowest level since 1994, and a continuing decrease in coal use by power plants is the leading reason, EIA data shows. The 2017 figures show a drop in coal and petroleum in power plants and an increase in natural gas. Power plants are also becoming more efficient.
