From the frozen crags of the Andes and Rockies to country-sized ice sheets around the Earth’s poles, global warming is melting the world’s ice at a dizzying rate. Greenland and Antarctica, two hard-hit regions, have together lost about 5,000 gigatons of ice between 2003 and 2019, a new study found. The research also points to where and how we can expect caches of ice to vanish in the future.
