Rep. Jared Huffman, a California Democrat, has proposed a new bill aiming to prevent oil and gas drilling near polar bear dens, targeting the Trump administration’s plans to open up a wildlife refuge in Alaska for drilling. The drilling could particularly harm mother polar bears, which will often refrain from leaving their dens even when faced with life-threatening disturbances, our own reporting found.
