Judge Allows ‘Necessity’ Defense by Climate Activists in Oil Pipeline Protest

A Minnesota judge has cleared the way for a potentially groundbreaking legal defense, ruling that three activists charged with felonies for shutting down a pipeline can argue they violated the law in order to protect citizens from the impacts of global warming and that they had no legal alternative.
