‘This Is an Emergency’: 1 Million African Americans Live Near Oil, Gas Facilities

African Americans are more likely than white Americans to live near oil and natural gas facilities: more than 1 million live within a half-mile of them, and 6.7 million live in counties with oil refineries, exposing them to toxic air emissions that cause health risks like asthma and cancer, a new study says.
