U.S. Utilities Balk at Expanded Carbon-Capture Subsidy

Potential tax credits for carbon-capture systems are not high enough to get U.S. utilities to consider developing the technology, they say. The Trump administration’s subsidy plan is supported by the oil and coal industries and some environmentalists, but a Reuters survey of the largest power utilities shows that eight of 10 have no plans to buy and install carbon capture equipment. The companies cite high costs and uncertain demand.
