Effective July 1, 2020, Vermont will be the first state in the nation to ban all household food waste from landfills statewide. New research shows a whopping 72% of Vermonters already compost or feed food scraps to pets/livestock, but few are willing to pay for curbside composting pickup, a strategy being implemented in many urban areas. The study offers important considerations for municipalities nationwide evaluating food waste policies to combat climate change.
