Coastal Flooding Could Hit Nearly 20 Percent of Global GDP by End of Century, Study Says

Coastal flooding made worse by climate change could damage assets worth up to $14.2 trillion by 2100 as rising seas inundate coastal homes and infrastructure, according to new research. Without investment in flood defense and a decline in greenhouse gas emissions, flooding will threaten about 48 percent more land, 46 percent more infrastructure and about 287 million more people, the study says.
